However, due to several factors, it is rare to have the opportunity to attend a performance outside specific areas of Kerala. Kalamandalam is the leading institution for the teaching of Kutiyattam. Besides being teachers in that institution, Kalamandalam Sangeeth Chakyar and Kalamandalam Sajith Vijayan are among the most appreciated performers of this art form. The workshop has given students a chance to approach the basic techniques of Kutiyattam acting and the main procedures of playing the Mizhavu drum from masters of this theatrical tradition in Kerala.<br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;">Kalamandalam Sajith Vijayan introduced the mythological and historical background of the Mizhavu drum. He explained the function and role of the drum in Kutiyattam Sanskrit theatre as it is performed in Brahmanical temples of Kerala and contemporary stages. He also demonstrated the rhythmic cycles (talas) associated with the drum and their relationship with the bodily movements and emotions presented by Kutiyattam actors on the stage. The information shared resonated with the experiences taught within the department so that students could take a lot away from Kalamandalam Sajith Vijayan’s wisdom.<br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;">The acting part Ajakarakabalitham is extracted from the Sanskrit Drama ‘Kalyanasougandhikam’ Vyayogam, written by the famous poet Neelakanta Kavi. It’s the enactment of Bhima watching a furious scene in the forest while searching for the Saugandhika flower for his beloved Draupadi.</p>Christ Universityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18154185702624807227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2382445616197505458.post-17958886955523041982023-08-09T04:29:00.003-07:002023-08-09T04:30:44.424-07:00DARPAN 2023, The Intra University Cultural Fest<div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><p style="text-align: justify;">Darpan 2023 was inaugurated on August 7, 2023, at the University football field. Ms. Hamsaveena of 6PME introduced the speaker to audience with a welcome note.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">The main focus of the talk was the emerging field of quantum technology and the skills one would need to pursue this discipline. Santosh S. first described and explained the four fields that lie under quantum technology, quantum metrology, quantum computation, quantum simulation, and quantum information. Quantum metrology is the study of quantum measurements, and is the most important field for studying fundamentals. Giving the example of a hydrogen atom, he also explained why there will be no more super symmetric particle to be discovered in the next five hundred years with our current technology.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">The second example given was of atomic clocks, and how a research paper described how precise clocks allowed for the resolution of gravitational time dilation across a millimetre- scale atomic sample with an error of one second. Further, miniature atomic clocks will become gravimeters to measure the gravitational field, due to their precision.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">Quantum computation was the next topic discussed, with a focus on how Google reached quantum supremacy in 2020, and how quantum computing varies from classical computing when it comes to certain functions such as the Grover search algorithm, its inverse method, finding the prime factors of numbers, and for drug creation.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">After this, the discussion shifted to quantum simulation, and how in 1995, the Bose-Einstein condensate vacuum chamber was achieved, with a lithium fermionic condensate at 100nK temperature, and how the measured magnetism jumps between two d layers.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">The last topic discussed in this part of the talk was quantum information, which is the distributing of entangled quantum states across a network. A cornerstone paper titled ‘A Single Quantum Cannot be Cloned’ was also discussed, along with Santosh S. recounting his experience in the field. He spoke of a network node called a stationary Qubit he is working on, and how his team had a world record in entanglement technology that until last year was unbroken. He also mentioned that he would be teaching a lecture on quantum technology in the coming future.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">With this, the first part of the talk was complete, and Santosh S. moved to the second part, which was about the skills and tools required to get into the field of quantum technology. The most important qualities and skills required are: interest, funding, mechanical engineering, computer programming, photonics, and electronics. He went on to explain how the 6 semesters of electronics he learnt during his Bachelor’s helped him immensely in his current field of study. The basics of electronics taught in the first semester helped in building circuits, the study of op-amps in the second semester was instrumental in control theory and building control loops, and the digital electronics of the third semester was vital for device control and time precision. Moreover, the study of antennas, microwaves, and transmission lines in the fourth semester aided in Qubit control, microcontrollers and microprocessors in the fifth semester aided in the main experiment control, and the study of FPGA in the sixth semester was the most important of all, as it can be used to control and simulate all of the above.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">When talking about how to fill one’s toolbox with the required skills, Santosh S. mentioned the following: learning plotting, simulation, and error calculation on Python, mastering LaTeX, soldering, programming on FPGA, DSP, and Raspberry Pi, and learning to read papers and datasheets, and extracting information from them. He also mentioned the necessity of being cautious to get into the field, but to not be scared, and that the most important skill one can learn is how to learn.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">On the behest of the faculty, Santosh S. shared some of his experiences of studying in the university, and shared his email address for further discussions or doubts.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">About 120 students from VI sem PCM and PME classes attended the session. The faculty members from the department were also present and interacted with Mr. Santosh.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">Ms. Sanithi John of 6 PME proposed vote of thanks.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXJzlyyylOxNdkEqeAnYpH_CYwjizbo5Zup4SVrM_0g0D_6OHo_aGnBWrEKZ4W6SHRQSy65Me6OftFbTInwomkNQQ1pLL7HQot0hUywVIQyaQIyVEJgkCNrsFx-6-3C2lhnFuQuSvtXvNt16OtlEWXG8XhFxomB8EFG61fghtirE8Jl4Q1qiVVU93r/s1210/ere.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="840" data-original-width="1210" height="278" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXJzlyyylOxNdkEqeAnYpH_CYwjizbo5Zup4SVrM_0g0D_6OHo_aGnBWrEKZ4W6SHRQSy65Me6OftFbTInwomkNQQ1pLL7HQot0hUywVIQyaQIyVEJgkCNrsFx-6-3C2lhnFuQuSvtXvNt16OtlEWXG8XhFxomB8EFG61fghtirE8Jl4Q1qiVVU93r/w400-h278/ere.jpg" width="400" /></a></div> </div>Christ Universityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18154185702624807227noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2382445616197505458.post-53201601467003348352022-07-29T03:14:00.004-07:002022-07-29T03:14:30.179-07:00Report on Career Guidance Talk by Mr. Edwin Jose<p style="text-align: justify;">A webinar was organized by the department of Physics and Electronics as a part of career guidance initiative involving alumni and industry experts on Thursday 28 July 2022 using WebEx platform.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The resource person was, Mr. Edwin Jose, an alumnus of the department (B.Sc. It has done so through popular support, through policy, and sometimes through deceit and Propaganda. Populism is a political tool that champions, or claims to champion the cause of the ‘common’ people and aid them in their fight against an actual or perceived elite or establishment. Populism typically combines the Left and Right, opposing huge commercial enterprise and economic elitism and often opposed to ‘elitist’ political traditions.</span></span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;"></span></span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;"> </span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;"> </span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;">Populism can be practiced in both democratic and authoritarian political systems. Populism usually is critical of political representation and all other systems that are in place to keep a distance between the people and those who rule. In established democracies, populism thrives to empower citizens by securing their rights through people-friendly policy and reforms without endorsing a revolutionary fervour.</span></span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;"> </span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;"> </span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;">The United States saw the rise of the Populist Movement in 1892 which gave birth to the Populist Party, the People’s party. The party sought critical reforms and was also successful in influencing amendments to the US Constitution. The populists of the era were also the seekers of direct democracy that they desired to achieve through initiatives for the common citizens and also pushing referenda. In contemporary times, populism is generally identified as a part of authoritarianism. The modern and contemporary periods of history have seen populism in many regions and states across the world as a phenomenon that revolves around a charismatic leader. Populism has been monistic in its contemporary avatar and rarely favours decentralization of power or socio-political narrative. The centralization of power and socio-political narrative has often led to the alienation of people from democratic values and past ideology.</span></span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;"></span></span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;"> </span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;"> </span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;">Authoritarian populism is usually accompanied by extreme nationalism, racism, conspiracies and increased targeting of marginalized groups, often through propaganda. This is usually done to secure the power of the leader or to hide failures that may threaten the leader’s rule. Populism may also lead to a rise in misinformation and data manipulation intended to keep the people ignorant about real issues or prevent protests and popular resistance to authority. Post the second world war, populism has been identified with the political style and functioning of Latin American leaders, namely Juan Perón, Getúlio Vargas, and Hugo Chávez. In the early twenty-first century, populist authoritarian regimes arose in Turkey, Poland, and Hungary, amongst different countries. Depending on one's view of populism, populist policies can be perceived as programs that that lead to popular welfare or deliberate shams that are intended to be mere instruments of symbolism that actually don’t lead to welfare. However, there could also be a middle ground in between these extreme views.</span></span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;"></span></span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;"> </span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;"> </span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;">International Relations today is a vast area with several issues at its core. Recent occurrences like ‘Brexit’, the election of Donald Trump in the United States, the Le Pen campaign in France, and the ascent of Conservative leaders in certain parts of the world has garnered the attention of the general public and the media across the world. The resurgence of populist ideas and movements in the United States, India, Russia and European states like the United Kingdom, France, and Germany has challenged the dominance of liberal principles in International Relations. There is a crucial need to understand populism in its contemporary avatar and deconstruct its various manifestations across the world. Keeping this in mind, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bangalore, India, and The University of Toledo, Ohio, USA, are jointly organizing an International virtual conference on New Populism and Responses of the 21st century. The conference will create a path to understand the changing facets of populism, and experts from various disciplines will address the relevance of populism in their particular domains.</span></span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;"> </span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;"> </span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;">To know more about the same, you can visit: <a href="https://npc.christuniversity.in/about ">https://npc.christuniversity.in/about</a></span></span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;"></span></span><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;"></span></span><br /><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;"></span></span></div></div>Christ Universityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18154185702624807227noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2382445616197505458.post-65648155488109538132021-03-04T02:20:00.009-08:002021-08-16T01:14:33.104-07:00Report - Workshop On “Blood Cancer And Need For Life Savers”<div><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Roboto;">The Life Science Association of the Department of Life Sciences, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bangalore jointly with DKMS BMST organized an interactive virtual session on Blood cancer and stem cells entitled <b>“Blood cancer and need for life savers”</b> on 4 February, 2021 on the occasion of ‘World Cancer Day’.<br /><br />Dr. Suma.S, Associate Professor, Department of Life Sciences and the faculty coordinator of Stem Cell Registry Programme introduced DKMS BMST and the resource persons.
