Report on Study trip to Central Poultry Development and Training Institute, Hesaraghatta, Bangalore Organized by the Dept of Life Sciences on 27 February, 2019.
A study trip was organized on 27 Feb 2019, for the 6 BCZ
class to the central poultry development and training institute, Hesarughatta,
Bangalore as part of the practical syllabus accompanied by Dr Paari and Prof
Ganesh. The Central
Poultry Development Organisation and Training Institute under
Government of India, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Department
of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India was formed after
merging and restructuring of the Central Poultry Units located at
Hessaraghatta, Bangalore viz. Central Poultry Training Institute, Central
Poultry Breeding Farm, Central Duck Breeding Farm, Random Sample Poultry
Performance Testing Centre, during June 2003. It is located close to and on the way to Hessaraghatta
lake about 40 kms from Christ University in Bangalore. It was established with an objective of acclimatizing and multiplying the
exotic strains of WLH poultry. The Centre also has a Duck Breeding Farm (CDBF)
with the technical collaboration of Government of United Kingdom for production
and supply of layer and meat type of ducks across the country. Th students
had a fruitful interaction with the Director Dr Mahesh PS and the deputy
director Dr KS Prathap Kumar of the institute who briefed us about the history
of the institute as well its aims and objectives. Dr Prathap Kumar also took
the students to show the demonstration units where the different breeds of
fowls were reared for visitors view. In all, this
visit helped students to gain an insight in the happenings and functioning of
the institute. Practical application of the theoretical knowledge gained in
college was obtained allowing us to get a better grasp of the concepts.
