The Department of Sociology, Christ University hosted Voices from the Waters 2013, the 8th International Travelling Film Festival on Water on August 29, 30 and 31 in collaboration with Goethe Institut, Rolling Frames Film Society, Karnataka Chalanachitra Acdemy, Federeation of Film Societies of India, Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, Swaraj and Deep Focus Cinema and the Bangalore Film Society. Films were screened between 9 and 4 pm on August 29 and 30 and between 9 and 1 pm on August 31. The venues were Room No.101 and Room No.105 in the Central block. The Film Festival at Christ Campus was inaugurated by Prof. John Joseph Kennedy, Dean Humanities and Social Sciences. The Department of Commerce organises Panel Discussion ever year for its M COM programme. It is a forum opened for intensive discussion and dialogue on current affairs of commerce and business with a core objective to educate the student community and keep them abreast with the current happenings in the commerce world.  The sessions are highly interactive with industrial experts present to enrich student’s learning. The topics that are selected add an important dimension to the curriculum.  This year, the discussion was focused on the topic “Licensing of new banks and its impact on the Economy”.   “SPECIES” the-intercollegiate competition organized by the Department of Zoology had a humble beginning about a decade and a half ago. This was organized as an annual affair even before a central committee on departmental festivals was set up. We, the students and the faculty had chalked five events for Species-2013.  The events are as follows: Crossword, Dumb charades, Photography, Pick and speak, and Quiz . Another feature was an EXHIBITION which showcased the peculiar, uncommon &  interesting specimens of our humble museum. In addition a collection of cancer   specimens from KIDWAI hospital and brain specimens of various neurological  disorders from NIMHANS were also on display. A live glass beehive and an   aquarium were also additional attractions. Report on Awareness Rally against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Every year the 26th of June is observed as the International Day against Drug abuse and Illicit Trafficking. This year the theme was “Make health your ‘new high’ in life, not drugs”. The rally was a collaborative effort by the Narcotic Drug Cell, Crime Investigation Department, Bengaluru and Kripa Revival Centre, Bengaluru -a NGO working in the area of drug rehabilitation. The ECE/EEE association CUESTIC has scheduled a week long intradepartmental technical and non technical events called "Source Code-2013".The inauguration of the same was done on 17/08/2013 at I block Auditorium. The chief Guest of the day was Dr.Abraham George, Group Manager, RF test and Measurement division, National Instruments. He delivered a Technical talk  on the topic 'Wireless Network Evolution and Emerging Trends'.  Broadly covering the following topics 1) Wireless Network evolution (1G, 2G, 3G, 4G) -30mins 2) Emerging areas such as 5G, cognitive networks, and heterogeneous networks.-40mins 3) Discuss the research challenges in heterogeneous networks-30mins 4) General Discussion 

‘Sambandh’ is the annual festival organized by the Department of Sociology, Christ University.   Being one of the most colorful events, students eagerly await this festival that is held in the even semester of every year.  The word “Sambandh” literally translates into relationships and as students of sociology the festival increases our scope to explore the dynamics of the social relationships we as individuals are tied to. Sambandh-2013 was held with more grandeur and fervor. The theme for this departmental festival was “Water for life”. This was in accordance with the United Nations theme and gained a wider attention than ever before. The month of august hosted various events for students from the under graduate, organized by the post graduate students.
