Report On The Stem Cell Awareness & Donor Registration Drive Organized By The Dept Of Life Sciences, Christ ( Deemed To Be University) In Collaboration With The Scri And Dkms On 3rd August 2018

An initiative was taken up the students of the Life Science Department, under the guidance of Dr Suma S , to collaborate with the Stem Cell Registry of India (SCRI) , to host a Stem Cell Awareness and Donor Registration Drive within the main campus of CHRIST (Deemed to be University) on 3 rd August 2018 . This event was made possible with the approval and encouragement received from the HOD of Life Science Dept., Fr. Jobi Xavier. The SCRI Head of Donor Recruitment and Communications, Mrs. Shalini Gambhir and her team comprising of Ms. Deepti Adhikari , Mr. Vysakh Shaji and Mr. Simon Joseph Das were in charge of training the volunteers involved in the program on the importance of becoming potential stem cell donors and the procedures involved during the registration process like filling up registration forms, administration of the buccal swab, barcoding of the samples, etc. The lead volunteers from CHRIST included Ms Priyanjali, Ms Chitanshi and Mr Adithya (BCZ final year stu...

Report on CORPORATE INTERFACE 2018 organized by Dept of Life Sciences

The department of Life Sciences had organized a Corporate Interface Connect on 24 July 2018. The Dean of Sciences Dr Surendra Kulkarni gave the Welcome Address. The Chief resource persons were Mr Mr.KshitijD.Rishi, Operation and Marketing Leader, Wipro GE Healthcare and Mr.ShyamSuryanarayan Co-founder, Scital Talent Service Pvt Ltd. The topic was “Corporate interface talk- Beauty of Proteomics and Career Opportunities”. The event was held from 12.00 noon to 1.00 PM in Room No. 911, Central block, Main campus, Christ (Deemed to be University). The topics revolved around quality control and system suitability in acquiring high-quality quantitative data. This event also covered topics like targeted studies and statistical tools required for proteomics study. The event was a good opportunity for the students and young researchers to familiarize with recent advancements and achievements in proteomics research and integration of discovery based shotgun proteomics.

Report On Genomics Talk (Corporate Interface -1) Organized By Department Of Life Sciences On July 19, 2018

The department of Life Sciences had organized a TALK ON Proteomics as part of the Corporate Interface Connect on 19 July 2018. The Dean of Sciences Dr Surendra Kulkarni gave the Welcome Address. The Chief resource person was Mr Hitesh  Goswami who is the Co-Founder & Director   of Bionivid. The talk was held in the Sky view in  Central Block, Main Campus, CHRIST ( Deemed to be University).  The t itle of talk was  'Advancement in Genomics Technology and Career Opportunities. Mr Hitesh started off with the historyof genomics and its tremendous progression over the years with some case studies of genetic diseases and the potential of genomics to treat those. The event was a good opportunity for the studentsto clarify their doubts on genomic platforms.

Asian Games 2018 Athletics: Ayyasamy Dharun can do the unthinkable in Indonesia..

Dharun has won a gold medal at the 2016 South Asian Games in Guwahati in 400m hurdles. In the same year, he was part of the relay team that broke the national record in 4x400m and qualified for the Summer Olympics. There will be much anticipation among fans regarding his performances in both individual and relay events at the Asian Games 2018. For more Details : click here

  The department of Life Sciences successfully organised the Science Academies’ Lecture Workshop on ‘Shock Waves and Medical Applications’, in collaboration with the three Science Academies - Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi and the National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad on March 7, 8, 2018. The event started at 9:30 am on March 7, with an inaugural ceremony in Sky View, Central Block, of the Main Campus of CHRIST (Deemed to be University) . The inaugural address was delivered by Fr. Dr. Abraham V M, Pro-Vice Chancellor. The welcome address was given by Dr.Sayantan D, Assistant Professor, Dept of Life Sciences and the Workshop coordinator. The chief guest of the event was Prof. Gopalan Jagadeesh, IISc Bengaluru, who also released the annual magazine of the Department of Life Sciences, BIOLINK 2018 after the inauguration. REPORT ON RELEASE OF THE ANNUAL NEWSLETTER, BIOLINK BY THE DEPARTMENT OF LIFE SCIENCES ON MARCH 7, 2018

The department of Life Sciences released the annual newsletter, BIOLINK on March 7, 2018. The Chief Guest of the event was Dr Gopalan Jagadeesh,   Professor of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Science. The Faculty editors of BIOLINK 2018, Ms Vasantha V. L and Dr Harinatha Reddy and the student Editors NilketaNerurkar and Devangshu Nandi were also present for the release of the newsletter. The newsletter served as a platform for the students of Life Sciences to express their writing skills. It also portrayed interview of experts on career opportunities in the field of Life Sciences.
