The Annual Project Exhibition was organized by the Electronics club on 19 February 2020, between 11am to 4pm in the Garden Street of Central Campus. The mission behind conducting this exhibition is to provide a platform for the final year students, to demonstrate and explain their constructed circuit with model, to the visitors of the stall thereby promoting the learning process with hands-on experience. The exhibition was organized by the B.Sc. final year students, of both PME and CME classes as a part of their VI semester project work under the guidance of the faculty members of the department, from Electronics. There were a total of 49 working projects on display during the event. The students demonstrated the working of their projects using power point presentation and charts to the visitors. Dr. George Thomas C, Dean of Science and Dr. Paul K T, HOD of Physics and Electronics visited the exhibition and encouraged the students by interacting with the students. ...

The department of Life Sciences had organized a foreign faculty guest lecture by Dr Michael Taylor, Professor, Proton therapy, University of Manchester, UK and the CHRISTIE NHS Foundation Trust on February 3, 2020. The venue was the Room No. 105, Central Block, Central Campus, CHRIST (Deemed to be University). Dr Taylor is currently a STEM Ambassador for covering the Great Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside regions. The welcome address was delivered by Aman Sharma, Secretary of Life Science Association. This was followed by the delivery of the lecture “ Radiotherapy for Cancer Treatment; Clinical Viewpoints” by Dr Taylor. The talk mainly focused on radiation detection and measurement in a bid to improve proton beam therapy in health and medicine domains to treat cancer. An awareness campaign on Energy conservation, e-waste, Hazards of mobile phone radiation, Renewable energy sources was organized on 24 January 2020, by the second year BSc (PME and CME) students as a part of their Electronics Club activities. This awareness campaign is being held annually with an objective to sensitize the students about various environmental and energy related issues. This activity is designed to enable students to understand the concept, do a literature survey, analyze it and prepare for the presentation. It also aims at helping students in improving their interpersonal skills. The students from IV semester PME and CME classes under the guidance of the faculty members of the department participated in the campaign held in the Garden Street of Bangalore Central campus.  The Department of Life Sciences had organized a talk by Dr K R Shivanna, INSA Senior Scientist, Ashoka Trust for Research in Environment and Ecology (ATREEE) Foundation, Bangalore as a part of “Memorial Lecture series on National Personalities” on 1 March 2019. Dr Shivanna shared his experiences and views about the national personalities Dr.Panchannan Maheshwari and Dr.Birbal Sahani. He also spoke about the importance of research and contribution of these scientist to research fields. The talk was followed by open discussion, question and answer session that were highly beneficial to the students.

A rural exposure camp was held at Yeldur on 22 and 23 November 2019, as part of Centre for Social Actions (CSA) initiative to look in to the socio-economic conditions of the people living there and assessing their progresses towards development. The camp was held for 2 BCZ students coordinated by Dr.P.Manikantan and Mrs.Parvathy. Valuable inputs about the socio-economic life of the rural people were given by the coordinator Mr Anjan. He discussed about the conditions of the villages to visit, the rules to abide by and the issues that to tackle, as well as the stereotypes existing in the life of rural people. He also mentioned how previous batches had managed to ensure that the evils like child marriage were curbed, how women are encouraged to undergo delivery in hospitals and primary health centres so as to receive post-natal care, and how they had managed to improve the number of children pursuing their higher studies. Life Science Association, Department of Life Sciences in collaboration with Centre for Social Action, arranged a one day exhibition of teaching materials prepared for underprivileged children of schools on 12 September 2019. The event was co-ordinated by Dr. Anish Nag, Coordinator of Life Science Association. The students of first year BCB presented various forms of teaching materials such as charts, posters, models etc. Students and faculty of other departments also visited the stalls.

The Department of Life Sciences had organized a Guest lecture on Stem Cells- a Life Saving treatment” by Dr Sachin Suresh Jadhav, Group Head, Hematology and BMT, HCG Group of Hospitals in collaboration with DKMS, Germany and BMST, Bangalore on 19 August 2019. The event was conducted in Sky View, Main Campus, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) under the guidance of Dr Suma S, Associate Professor, Dept of Life Sciences. Dr Sachin explained the need to donate stem cells as there is a huge need for stem cell transplant for cancer patients. He elaborated on bone marrow transplant and the numerous applications of stem cells. Ms Shalini Gambhir, Head of Donor Recruitment & Data Management at DKMS BMST Foundation India, talked on the significance of stem cell registry. The students had lot of queries in this regard and it turned out to be a very interactive session.
