2-DAY LECTURE WORKSHOP ON “RECENT ADVANCES IN BIOLOGY”
“Learning never stops within the four
walls of the classroom; beyond this exists reality, which gives us the birds’
view”
The Department of Biotechnology, in
association with Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences
& National Academy of Sciences,successfully organised a 2-day lecture
workshop on “The Recent Advances in Biology”, with an overwhelming response
from 13 participating colleges and 150 participants. The journey spanned from
31st January to 1st February, consisting of 7 eminent
speakers from reputed institutions. Both the days encapsulated interesting
talks from excellent scientists and ignited the young minds. Day one started
off with an inaugural session, covering messages by Rev. Dr. (Fr.) Col. Thomas.
C. Mathew – our beloved V.C, , Prof.RaghavendraGadagkar-the first speaker,
Prof.Vasantha V. L – the Staff co-ordinator of this workshop and Dr. Suma
S-Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology.
It then continued with the
talks lined up for the day. Day two also had a host of interesting talks by
excellent speakers and ended with a silver lining – the valedictory programme.
This last segment of the workshop had inspiring talks by Prof. Umesh
Varshney-the convener of this workshop and Dr. Louis George-Associate Dean and
the HOD. It all finally ended with energetic performances by creative students
from 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of Biotechnology.
All in all, this 2-day learning
experience can be encapsulated in just one line : such workshops certainly
inspire the students and this workshop has successfully made the students dream
bigger and better!!!
